Ball-point pen portrait

Wow--I've forgotten how much I love ball point pen. It's so EASY, and it's not messy (plus I can use it anywhere). My student teacher is doing her full-time teaching stretch right now, and I have lots of time on my hands during the school day, but I just haven't thought I should get out my inks and set up anywhere. Where would I do it? In the library? In the English office? Though I'm not self-conscious about sketching anywhere, that seems a bit much. But I always have a ball-point pen in my bag.

It doesn't look like the scan got all the subtlety of this, and printer paper can't hold up to the stress of lots of dark lines, but I'm pleased. Maybe today I'll use card stock.

  4. This is absolutely beautiful. I can't believe it is ball point. When I was in HS (art school) they told us never to use ballpoint because it can blob. I have always used rollerballs or even gel rollers because of that. My favorite pen is the Uniball deluxe, and when I taught, I called them my magic pens and would never lend any out. I loved them because they're fine point, dark black, smooth, and waterproof. And they feel right in the hand. Alas, they seem to be discontinued and I can't find them anywhere anymore.

I don't know if I'm ready to move to ball point, though. That might be too big a leap for me.

  8. Your work is wonderful. This man is full of character -- did you give it to him or did he already have it?

  11. You are very talented...I don't think it matters what kind of pen you use....it's all good! Have you tried the new Sharpie Pen. I love them, they do not bleed through the paper and they are very smooth.
