********** She is poised for eternity. It's been a good life, and she has no regrets.
On another front--thinking more about messiness and impatience, one really needs to treat those things just like another part of your media. You have the paper, the pens, the ink, your interests, skills, and personality, and you have to work with all of them. No sense in fighting any of it.

If I could only subtract all the messiness, then I'd be much happier with my pictures! New problem with the mask (beyond the smearing when I try to rub it off)--if you put it on too thick, it pulls the surface of the paper up with it when you try to take it off. Grrrrr. And then the blobs of ink splattering all over the place. I really need to do something about that too.
But this is a picture I made for my sweetie's birthday yesterday. I hope he likes it.

This is the third picture from last week's Illustration Friday topic, intricate, a study of wrinkles. I've given up on it, because what started off being a very detailed and precise thing has gotten totally out of hand. How many splotches of ink can a person spill on a drawing?! And I haven't figured out a way to get the masking material off the paper without smearing the corners.... So I didn't "finish" it at all...
Oh well, I guess. It's not like this is for anything other than my own making-a-picture pleasure (though it'd be nice to have it turn out decent).

************* Legends gloss over reality, which in this case is a very tired and discouraged boy, trying to play a man's role. That he will someday become a legend does not in any way lessen his current exhaustion. He is grateful for his faithful hound.

Wellllllllllll, I don't know what I was thinking here. This kindof goes with last week's Illustration Friday theme--breezy--at least that's where I started. I never just make (or start) one picture. With this mixed media stuff (in this case, water color, water-soluable painting crayons, and colored pencils (I guess ink too with the spatters), you have to wait for things to dry, and you might as well be working on something else at the same time. Three is about the right number. The third one this time, I never liked at all....

It seems that so many pictures I've made would fit with this topic, but this is a new one. I'm really happy with it. Several people commented that several of my earlier posts looked so sad, so this was going to be happy.
It was too big for my scanner though, so this is kindof stuck together. Not ideal, but you can get the idea.
I took this to a friend's house last night, and he liked it so much that I gave it to him. I hope he puts it somewhere where I can see it when I come visit.
